Tanzania - Support to Technical Vocational Education and Training and Teacher Education - Appraisal Report
The proposed Tanzania Support to Technical Vocational Education and Training and Teacher Education Projectis designed within the context of the national human resource development priorities and in support of the development of skills in the country.The project is in support of the priorities of the Country Strategy Paperand is in line with Bank’s own priorities as stated in its 2013-2022 strategy. It will focus on the technical vocational education and training sub-sector and on teacher education, with the aim of contributing to efforts to increase the supply of skilled labor and build capacity for teacher education. The project will provide resources for provision of improved learning and teaching environment atbeneficiary education institutions. Key outcomes of the project areincreased access to and improved quality and equity of technical vocational education and training;and increased capacity of secondary teacher education in science and mathematics. The expected outputs include expanded infrastructureat 13 institutionswith about 8,000 trainees attending at any given time;expanded and extensive use of ICT in instructionat 53 institutions; and increased capacity for teaching, policy formulation, planning and quality assurance in technical vocational education and teacher education. The project will be implemented over a period of five years. It will befunded by an ADF loan of UA 34.00 million and government contribution of UA3.78 million. The ADF loan will finance90% of the total project cost and the government contribution will finance 10%of the cost of the project.
