As part of Nelson Mandela’s centenary celebration, the African Development Bank, through its Institute of African development (ECAD) will organize a public lecture on the theme “The Africa we want: Promoting African Knowledge by Africans, for Africa” on September 17, 2018 at the Bank’s Headquarters, in the Babacar N’Diaye Auditorium.
Organized in collaboration with the South African Embassy in Cote d’Ivoire, the lecture will be delivered by Dr. Pali Lehohla, former South African Statistician General, and Dr. Koffi N’Guessan, former Director of the Ecole Natonale Supérieure de Statistiques et d’Economie Appliquée in Côte d’Ivoire.
The lecture will be followed by floor discussions on how to mobilize domestic (Africa wise) resources of all sorts to promote the generation of relevant and useful knowledge through a dynamic of knowledge sharing and peer learning across the continent, putting forth partnerships that lead to meaningful changes.
Beyond the celebration of Mandela centenary, the lecture aims at supporting dialogue and collaboration between the Bank and its Regional Member Countries on knowledge harnessing and dissemination and contributing to participative policy development.
The lecture is expected to attract top dignitaries, members of the international community, policy makers from the government of Cote d’Ivoire, the Bank’s board of directors and senior leadership as well as the South African community in Cote d’Ivoire, students, academicians and the media and top diplomatic representatives.
