Benin Prime Minister Lionel Zinsou says access to energy should be a social right
Speaking in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire on 17 September, where he Joined a stakeholders meeting on lighting Africa packaged by the African Development Bank (AfDB), Prime Minister Lionel Zinsou of Benin shared his country’s ambitious energy for all programme with participants.
Zinsou said that Benin has opted for solar energy which is cheaper and easy to deploy across the country to achieve the government’s energy for all program. “We want to create a new social right by providing electricity to all household with solar kits.” He said the option derives from the fact that 50% lack the resources to access electricity even in the few that they are available.
