Romano Prodi and Kaberuka Meet to Discuss the Crisis in the Sahel Region

The UN Special Envoy for the Sahel, Romano Prodi, met with the President of the African Development Bank, Donald Kaberuka, on April 15, 2013 in Tunis, to discuss security, governance, humanitarian requirements, and development in the Sahel region.  

The African Development Bank and the United Nations are strongly engaged in supporting efforts of Sahelian countries to address the multifaceted crisis in the region, with a special focus on Mali.

With President Kaberuka, Prodi explored opportunities for collaboration and complementarities highlighting strengthened and sustained inclusive governance institutions, security, development and coordination of humanitarian responses to the Sahel crisis.

The mandate of the UN Special Envoy is to mobilize international efforts, formulate and coordinate the implementation of UN integrated strategy on the Sahel. In addition the mandate includes  engaging  actively in defining the parameters of a comprehensive solution to the Malian crisis, under the four pillars of security, governance, humanitarian requirements, and development.
