A least cost and technologically and environmentally acceptable sanitation facility for disposing of wastewater is designed to serve part of the population of Accra.
A) Review and update of the feasibility Study Report which was carried out in 1996; B) Carry out detail designs of Phase I works recommended in the Feasibility Study report. This will include: i) Preparation of detail designs of physical components of the Project; ii) Preparation of Environmental Management Plan; iii) Estimation of the cost of the Project; iv) Preparation of tender documents of the Project; C) Determine the rehabilitation works for the existing plants and sewers in the city.
Decrease in water borne diseases and improved the quality of life for the residents of the city of Accra.
The development of the sanitation facilities in Accra has not kept pace with the development of the water supply. Besides, the few existing sewerage facilities have become non-operational due to lack of maintenance and as a result of which waste water from various on-site facilities are discharged to surface water course with out adequate treatment, thus posing health hazards to people as well as to acquatic envirnment.
