ID: P-MW-DB0-001 Name: MZUZU-MUHUJU ROAD STUDY (88.4 KM) (ADF) Status: Completed Country: Malawi
Sector: Transport Approval date: 30-avr-1975 Task Manager: RAO KAMAVARAPU Sat Ya H., OINF2
Total cost: 850000
Currency: UAC
Source(s) of financing
ADF: 680000
Implementing Agency: MINISTRY OF WORK

Objectives

The principal aim of the study will be to determine the technical and economic feasibility of constructing new or improved road connections between Mzuzu and Muhuju and to provide the basis for decisions on the standards of design, optimum routing and the feasibility of staged construction. Once such decisions are taken and the best solution is selected, final engineering design and relevant tender documents have to be prepared accordingly.

Benefits

The Government of Malawi has proposed that an all weather road be constructed from Mzuzu to Kacheche and the existing road from Kacheche to Muhuju be improved so that there will be a continuous all-weather link from Muhuju in the Northern Region. This will complete an important missing section in the main internal trunk road system linking the three regions. The total length of the Mzuzu-Kacheche-Muhuju road is 86.4 km.
