The objectives of the project are: - To rehabilitate the water supply system in the City of Lusaka and reduce the unaccounted for water to 30% by the time the project is completed; - To strengthen the executing agency by providing operational facilities and improving its management information system.
The Lusaka Water Supply Rehabilitation Project as appraised comprised the following components: A. Supply and Installation of Trunk and Distribution Mains; B. Supply and Installation of Pumping Equipment; C. Supply and Installation of Metering Equipement; D. Supply and Installation of Disinfection Equipment; E. Rehabilitation of Reservoirs; F. Construction of Offices, Stores and Workshops; G. Supply of Plant, Tools and Equipment; H. Design and Supervision for Building Works; I. Water Loss Analysis and Control; and J. Implementation Unit; Following an agreement with the Bank, the building works component has now been reconfigured to include the following: - Rehabilitation of additional boreholes; - Development of mass media and Mumbwa Rd. well fields; - Kafue water works washwater recovery plant; - construction of Quarry water supply; - construction of workshop and stores; - feasibility study of on-site chlorine generation;
Sustainable and improved water supply services.
The project outputs will be: - Replacement of a total of 15 km of trunk mains of 450 and 375 mm diameter; - Installed 21 pumps; - System recording and bulk meters; - 10,000 domestic meters and 15,000 meter repair kits; - Disinfection equipment; - Rehabilitated reservoirs and additional 950 m3 storage tank; - 4,500 m2 of office, and 1500 m2 of storage and workshop space; - Workshop equipment, tools, plant and vehicles
