To restore the water supply production facilities in Kitwe to their designed capacities and reduce the unaccounted for water to 40% of production.


The Project entails rehabilitation of: - Two water treatment plants; - Four distribution centres including reservoirs and pumping stations; - Trunk mains and secondary water distribution system; - supply of pipes, fittings, radio communication and leak detection equipment; supply and installation of metering equipment; - Workshop building; and - Institutional support for PIU and Training of local staff ; - Engineering Services and Technical Assistance.


The Project will provide sustainable water supply and improved public health for the residents of Kitwe and also promote commercial and industrial developments.


The proposed project which is aimed at preserving, maintaining and rehabilitating existing facilities is consistent with the Bank Group's lending policy within the water sub-sector; the proposed rehabilitation project a lso falls within the Governments strategy and priorities for the sector development.
