The objective of the project is to augment the facilities for the export of hydropower from Zambia to Namibia through the construction of 132kV transmission networks. The project will generate foreign exchange for Zambia and provide least cost power supply to Namibia.

The project would entail the following major works: (a) Construction of 233.5 km 220 kV transmission line; (b)erection of 220/33 kV substation at Victoria Falls; and (c) erection of 220/66 kV substations each at Sesheke and Katima Mulilio. The project would also provide engineering services for the detailed engineering design and construction supervision, and audit services for auditing the accounts of the project.

The project will augment the export of hydropower from Zambia to Namibia thereby generating foreign exchange for Zambia, while at the same time providing Namibia with least cost energy supply. The project will contribute to the development of the economic potentials of the supply areas. The project will also contribute to regional economic integration among the countries of the Southern Africa Region.

The rationale of the poject is to strengthen the electric network interconnection between Zambia and Namibia to meet the projectd demand in Namibia and Western Zambia.
