The principal objective of the project is to upgrade and construct existing gravel/earth roads to bitumen standard in order to link the four growth points within the project area to the main arteries of the highway network and thereby to bring these areas inot the main economic and social fabric of the country.
a) upgrading of the following roads with shoulders on either side to bitumen standard: (i) Gokwe - Sikomola (88 km); Mvuma - Gweru (40 km); Seki - Zwipadze (40 km); and Gwanda - Guyo (53 km). b) consultancy services for supervision of the works in (a) above.
The project will creat direct and indirect jobs for the rural population during construction. Second, the implementation of the project will help generate additional income from increased farming activities.
The rural roads project constitutes penetration of access roads to villages, farms and areas of great agricultural and mineral potential from the main highway and activity areas. Furthermore, the success of the resettlement programmes for the rural population depends largely on the implementation of the rural roads projects.
