Objectives
It is intended under the project to drill boreholes, develop other water sources, provide raw water abstraction,. transmission, treat- ment, storage, and distribution facilities and construct potable water consumer collection points at selected 80 rural service centres and 6 regional economic growth centres in the Communual Lands. Each water supply scheme will have as the core a service centre, local growth point, which intended to provide a basis for healt, educational agricultural, and administrative services for the surrounding areas. In addition, with the provision of a basic water service at each centre, it would be expected that establishment of additional retail businesses would be centralized and thus marketing facilities for both local and external produce and services would be improved resulting in a better integration of the rural population into the national economy.
