Objectives

The project aims at contributing to the TSIP's objectives of optimising the utilisation of existing capacity; reducing the number of wait-listed subscribers by providing 30,000 main distribution frame (MDF) pairs; and improving performance of the network and the quality of services rendered to the consumer.

Description

The project components are: External line plant, protection units, transmission, cellular radio network, auxilliary equipment (Frequency Management and Sound Programme distribution network).

Rational

The proposed project is planned to improve the telecommunications facilities. Due to the rapid change in technology in the telecommunications field, it has become necessary to replace all the analogue equipment. The project would provide a major service in the cellular radio field thereby the proposed equipment would provide services to subscribers who are not in the immediate vicinity of a telephone line but need to be contacted by telephone. The project will also complement the earlier investment financed by the Bank under Telecom. I project.
