The proposed operation focuses empowering youth and women through entrepreneurial skills development to enhance their access to finance and the growth of their small businesses, which are imperative for the socioeconomic development of the Zimbabwe. It will complement the ongoing Youth and Tourism Enhancement Project; the Capacity Building for Public Finance and Economic Management (CBPFEM) Project; and the Governance and Institutional Strengthening Project (GISP), by building the capacity of youth participate effectively in the economy. The proposed project will also address capacity constraints at the Ministries responsible for women and youth development.
The Government has requested the Bank continued support to create an enabling environment and opportunities for the socio-economic empowerment of youth and women. The Bank will therefore support the country through this intervention, which aims to equip unemployed youth and women with the necessary entrepreneurship skills and also to enhance their access to finance.
The benefits of the Project include the creation of sustainable employment opportunities through the support for the establishment and development of small enterprises. The project will equally contribute to the improvement of livelihoods for targeted women who will be supported to grow their businesses and incomes.
