  • Référence: P-EG-FF0-003
  • Date d’approbation: 29/11/2011
  • Date de début: 17/04/2013
  • Date d'évaluation: 11/04/2011
  • Statut: En coursOnGo
  • Agence d'implémentation: "NREA ,20 PROJECT NO 27,"
  • Emplacement: Kom Ombo

The project entails two main activities: 1) carry out a complete Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the Kom Ombo 100 MW CSP project due to the potential environmental impacts of such a large infrastructure project; and 2) supporting NREA in the whole cycle of procuring an EPC contractor for the Kom Ombo project, including preparation and issue of complete bidding documents for the works anticipated under the project, receiving and evaluating bid proposals until the final conclusion of a contract with an EPC contractor.

The objective of the project is to help Egypt prepare the Kom Ombo CSP project in order to be ready for implementation, and increase the capacity of the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) in the area of CSP development.

The project will contribute to Egypt's objectives of security of supply, energy diversification, and CO2 emission reductions through increased penetration of renewable energy in the country's energy mix. Furthermore, the project aims at contributing to the global deployment of CSP technology by decreasing costs through large scale deployment. The proposed project contributes to expected outcomes such as increased penetration of renewables to transition the energy system to a low c arbon path and development of a local manufacturing capability for renewable technologies, therefore contributing to job creation.

The project will help complete all the necessary preparatory studies necessary to start implementation of a 100 MW solar power project. The project will help increase the installed power capacity in the country, increase the share of renewable energy, and help the country diversify its energy sources.
