La politique du GOM visait à favoriser la croissance économique globale du pays par des investissements accrus dans le secteur minier. Des mesures ont été prises pour réorganiser ce secteur, des programmes spécifiques ont été mis en place pour réaliser une cartographie géologique de base, des levés régionaux aériens géophysiques, géologiques et géochimiques.
