Somalia: African Development Bank Group approves framework to clear nation’s arrears

The African Development Bank and African Development Fund today approved a framework  for $122.55 million to clear Somalia’s arrears, paving the way for the Bank Group to fully reengage with Somalia and opening opportunities for enhanced financing for the country. Somalia - Consumer Price Index - January 2020

The All Groups CPI was 113.14 in the month of January 2020, compared with 114.64 in the month of December 2019. The monthly change, January 2020 compared to December 2019, was a decrease of -1.31 percent. This is compared to a monthly decrease of -1.27 percent in the previous month of December 2019. The most significant monthly price decreases were Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (-2.69 percent). This publication provides monthly Consumer Price Indices of Somaliland composite which is based on two main market baskets of Hargeisa urban households that was further sampled into 110 outlets. However, the current Consumer Price Index was constructed the results of the 2012 Somaliland Household budget survey (SHS). During the exercise, markets were combined into the Index. Since 2016, Somalia is implementing wide-ranging economic, social and political reforms, with support from the international development partners, including the Bank. The All Groups CPI was 114.64 in the month of December 2019, compared with 116.10 in the month of November 2019. The monthly change, December 2019 compared to November 2019, was a decrease of -1.27 percent. This is compared to a monthly decrease of -0.12 percent in the previous month of November 2019. There were no significant monthly price increases during the month of December. Over the twelve months to the month of December 2019 (inflation rate), the All Groups CPI decreased to 3.13 percent, compared with 3.81 percent over the twelve months to the month of November 2019

The All Groups CPI was 116.25 in the month of October 2019, compared with 116.07 in the month of September 2019. The monthly change, October 2019 compared to September 2019, was a decrease of 0.15 percent. This is compared to a monthly increase of 0.57 percent in the previous month of September 2019.
