The Bank has stepped up the financing of Infrastructure and Urban Development projects, committing USD 1.9 billion for 19 projects in 2018. Among this year’s portfolio, important multinational road corridor projects which Integrate Africa by connecting cities across borders and by linking landlocked regions to seaports.
Cette étude pour l’amélioration de la sécurité routière dans le District de Bamako, commandée par le Gouvernement de la République du Mali, expose une méthodologie originale de géolocalisation des accidents en temps réel, combinée à la collecte et l’analyse des données associant à la fois les services de la Police, de la Gendarmerie, de la Protection Civile et les hôpitaux. Elle a permis d’établir un diagnostic clair et des solutions qui permettront au Ministère des Transports et du Désenclavement de se fixer des objectifs réalistes dans le cadre de la mise en œuvre du plan d’actions de la Décennie d’actions sur la sécurité routière 2011- 2020.
During 2017, the Bank approved 16 transport, urban development and ICT projects worth USD 1.52 billion. Lending, portfolio management, analytical and advisory activities are accounted for in the 2017 Annual Report of the Infrastructure and Urban Development department of the Bank. Among the highlights in 2017, the Bank’s contribution to the Tunisia Digital 2020 project will assist the country in achieving universal internet connectivity and facilitate access to online government services. In the Central African Republic, over 1,000km of ﬁber optic cable will bridge the Internet connectivity gap and connect to the Central Africa Backbone, linking with Chad and Cameroon.
The report provides an account of the Bank’s achievements in Lending, Portfolio Management, and Analytical and Advisory Activities in Transport and ICT sectors.
The report illustrates the kind of work we do at the AfDB to finance Transport and ICT infrastructure development on the continent to promote regional integration, support agriculture, and facilitate the industrialization of Africa.
During the course of 2016, the Bank financed a total of 15 transport and ICT operations amounting to US$ 1.6 billion.

The aim of this report is to document and highlight some of the take away points raised during the various sessions and panels.
The study provides an overall assessment of road safety at a regional level and points to the need for a review to identify gaps of priority and intervention mechanisms at country level. The study gives a basis for strengthening the Bank’s road safety support to regional member countries in line with the Bank group Ten Year Strategy (2013-2022) and the sector policy. More importantly, it underlined the Bank’s advisory role to enhance governments’ commitment and draw effective strategy towards instituting comprehensive road safety action plan/programme including the introduction of safe system approach for far reaching goal.
The two manuals (‘New Roads and Schemes – Road Safety Audit’ and ‘Existing Roads – Proactive Approaches’) describe methods that can be considered ‘proactive’ in that they aim to identify safety deficits before crashes begin to accumulate.
The manuals have been developed based on best practice from a number of countries worldwide, including current practices in Africa. They adopt a ‘Safe System’ approach throughout which is concerned with engineering the road environment so that only low severity crashes are possible when users make mistakes.

The asphalting of the Koumra-Sarh road is a project funded by ADB and completed in 2013. It was intended to contribute to the open up of Chad and to improve the efficiency of the transport logistic chain, accessibility and mobility of the populations in the Southern part of the country.
