Project Brief – ESKOM

This Investment Program is the first phase (2006/7-2011/12) of the Capacity Expansion Program which envisages building 40,000 MW from 2006 to 2025. The main objectives thereof are to (i) assist the Government in achieving ASGISA’s target of 6% per annum of GDP growth from 2010, (ii) ensure security of supply, (iii) improve operational efficiency, (iv) enhance electricity access rate from 72% to 100% by 2012 and (v) foster sustainable development. It is also aimed at promoting the development of the South African Industry; it in particular extends support to the Black Economic Empowerment Program and Black Women Organizations. It is comprised of (a) generation (b) transmission (c) distribution and (d) corporate operations
