The Gender Policy

28-Aug-2000

This policy paper defines the commitment of the African Development Bank (the Bank) to promote gender mainstreaming as a means of fostering poverty reduction, economic development and gender equality on the continent. The policy is set within the framework of the Bank’s New Vision (1999) in which Poverty reduction constitutes the broad framework within which strategic actions to achieve gender equality will be pursued. Due account has been taken of the critical areas of concern for gender mainstreaming and women empowerment elaborated in the Dakar and Beijing Platform for Action (PFA), as well as consensus that already exists between the Bank and Regional Member Countries (RMCs) concerning the Bank’s priority areas of focus.
