Sudan: African Development Bank approves $31.3 million grants for water and sanitation facilities

The African Development Bank Group on 9 October, 2019 approved an African Development Fund (ADF) grant of $30 million and a $1.3 million grant from the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Initiative Trust Fund for the upgrading of water and sanitation facilities in Sudan’s North and South Kordofan states. Yaoundé aims for zero floods by 2020, thanks to funding from the African Development Bank

The Yaoundé Sanitation Project (PADY) has reduced the number of floods in the Cameroonian capital by five times (from 15 to 3). The project was launched in 2007 and financed by the African Development Bank, with the second phase starting in 2013. The goal was to eliminate floods by 2020. Cameroon - Yaounde Sanitation Project - Phase II (PADY 2) - Appraisal Report

Phase 2 of the Yaounde Sanitation Project (PADY.2) is a continuation of Phase 1 financed by the Bank, which had helped to develop 20% of the main river canal ( Mfoundi ) and its four tributaries crossing the city of Yaounde. PADY 2 will help to develop the remaining canal, thus strengthening the positive impacts of the first phase in terms of health and urban poverty reduction.
