The objective of the project is to contribute to the reduction of poverty amongst the youth and women through the supporting entrepreneurship initiatives and capacity development.
The project has three mutually reinforcing components: (i) Developing small enterprises; (ii) Institutional support; and (iii) project management.
The benefits of the Project include the creation of sustainable employment opportunities through the support for the establishment and development of small enterprises. The project will equally contribute to the improvement of livelihoods for targeted women who will be supported to grow their businesses and incomes.
The proposed operation focuses empowering youth and women through entrepreneurial skills development to enhance their access to finance and the growth of their small businesses, which are imperative for the socioeconomic development of the Zimbabwe. It will complement the ongoing Youth and Tourism Enhancement Project; the Capacity Building for Public Finance and Economic Management (CBPFEM) Project ; and the Governance and Institutional Strengthening Project (GISP), by building the capacity of youth participate effectively in the economy. The proposed project will also address capacity constraints at the Ministries responsible for women and youth development. The Government has requested the Bank continued support to create an enabling environment and opportunities for the socio-economic empowerment of youth and women. The Bank will therefore support the country through this intervention, which aims to equip unemployed youth and women with the necessary entrepreneurship skills and also to enhance their access to finance.
The direct beneficiaries are primarily: (i) the unemployed women and youth in the targeted 5 out of 59 districts of the country. The targeted districts are Be it bridge,Mutasa, Marondera, Lupane and Guruve.These women and youth will be supported to benefit from economic opportunities in horticulture, mopane worms and honey processing as well as in artisanal mining enterprises; they will receive business management and entrepreneurship training and will have access to employment information and access to SME finance;and(ii) the 1500 women targeted in all 10 provinces of the country, that will...
