The Independent Review Mechanism - Annual Report 2017

The Compliance Review and Mediation Unit (BCRM) and the Experts of the Independent Review Mechanism (IRM) successfully delivered the IRM work program for the year 2017. This achievement was made possible because of the close collaboration of the affected people who submitted Requests to the IRM as well as the Bank Management together with the concerned project implementation units. The complainants and the CSOs are to be commended for their continued cooperation with the IRM. The Bank Management and the borrowers’ commitments towards fulfilling the remedial actions were also instrumental in redressing the plight of the affected people. The Independent Review Mechanism - Annual Report 2015

The Compliance Review and Mediation Unit (CRMU) continued to make progress in handling ongoing complaints from Kenya, Morocco, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda. The new cases brought to the attention of the CRMU included not only standard requests for compliance review or problem solving, but also requests to help bridge differences between parties. The year 2015 was a milestone in handling the case related to the Medupi Power Project in South Africa, with the first field-monitoring mission of the IRM on 10- 16 May 2015.

The Compliance Review and Mediation Unit (CRMU) would like to acknowledge the support of the Requestors, the National Investment Promotion and Major Projects Agency (APIX), Lead Afrique Francophone, the African Development Bank Management and the Bank's Regional Office in Senegal. The technical assistance provided by these project stakeholders facilitated considerably the assessment of the Request related to Dakar-Diamniadio Highway Project in Senegal and CRMU processing of the complaint through a problem solving exercise.
