Egypt - Country Strategy Paper 2022-2026

27-Jun-2022

This report presents the Bank Group’s Country Strategy Paper (CSP) for Arab Republic of Egypt for the 2022-2026 period. The new strategy builds on results and lessons drawn from the previous 2015-2021 strategy paper, which contributed to the development of the country’s infrastructure and improved the business environment, fostering sustainable and inclusive growth. The main objective of the CSP 2022-2026 is to build a competitive and resilient economy through private sector development and addressing the country’s vulnerability to climate change. To achieve this objective, the CSP proposes an articulation around the following two Priority Areas: Priority Area 1 – Strengthening the country’s competitiveness to support robust private sector led growth and job creation; and Priority Area 2 – Building resilience to achieve food and water security and energy efficiency. To this end, the Bank’s support will target the industry, transport, water and energy sectors. Bank support will also address the cross-cutting themes of: Climate change, Gender Equality and Economic Governance. The new CSP’s Priority Areas are consistent with Egypt’s New Government Action Program 2023-2027 and aligned with the Bank’s Ten-Year Strategy (TYS) 2013-2022 to support Regional Member Countries in achieving more inclusive growth while helping them move towards green growth. The CSP is also aligned with the High 5s relevant sectors and North Africa regional integration strategies and will contribute to responding to the Bank’s commitments under  under the General Capital Increase (GCI-VII).
